Note on Cost of Lathe
Cuts - I know these are expensive. They
are really fun to do, but are ridiculously expensive to make when
you figure the
production, labels, and shipping costs from New Zealand, wire
transfer fees and the totally weak US dollar in relation to the
world market. My general pricing policy on these is to price them
just high enough to pay for the costs of the copies that I give
to the bands and the few that I keep for my archives. There is
NO profit margin on them, and I often lose money on the run. But
I really love making them, plan to continue doing so (when/if
the dollar improves), and really hope you enjoy listening to them!

Juston
Stens - Falling/Out of Here Square, clear 7":
- $10
The debut single from
One-Man Band, Juston Stens. Juston spent the last 6 years
playing drums for Philly pysch-poppers, Dr. Dog, until he
left to pursue his solo stuff. He plays all instruments,
and the single was recorded by Nathan Sabatino of the Golden
Boots. Two beautiful, retro pop tracks, The doo-wop style
Falling, and the Elvis-ish rocker Out of Here. Each cover
was hand-screened and colored in by Juston himself. Ltd
Ed of 100 Check out both tracks on myspace.

Golden
Boots - White Skeleton X-Ray Pic Disc Square 5":
- $8
Great new song on a
beautiful record. If you hold it up to the light, it's an
X-Ray, and you see... um... bones and stuff, and if you
look at it flat, it looks like the Milky Way. One-sided
- Ltd ed of 50.

Lee
Baggett - Summer Grass Vol. 1: Silver Sea:
- $25
Ltd Ed of 35 copies, includes lathe cut
CD.
The first in the series,
but the last of three to be released, this is the conclusion
to the Summer Grass saga from Lee Baggett. This was recorded
a few days before and after 9/11 with Graves' frontman Greg
Olin working the tape machine and other instruments. Again,
Lee made amazing 10"x20" oil paintings for each
of these and they include a cd-r with a lathe cut bonus
track on the back. Ltd ed of 35.

Salesman
- Skull Laserdisc LP:
- $20
Ltd Ed of 40 copies, handmade covers...
In die cut covers
designed to look like those little cardboard coin protectors
that coin collectors use. These look fantastic and were
made by the band. Salesman is an Austin band featuring John
Farmer from Barsuk's What Made Milwaukee Famous. I've been
trying to figure out how to describe them, but their sound
is hard to nail down. There are tinges of mid-90's Texas
Alternative Noise rock bands (Toadies/Baboon/Caulk) along
with shades of Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, etc. But check it
out for yourself at: http://www.myspace.com/salesmanband/

 |
Southerly
- Champion of the Noisy Negativists LP:
- $20
Ltd Ed of 50 copies on clear LP, hand-screened.
This is not a standard
Southerly record... it was actually originally recorded
by Krist Krueger (Southerly frontman) as a solo project
under a different name, but the full band began playing
songs from it and Krist decided to make it a Southerly release.
It is a very beautiful, atmospheric, droney kind of instrumental
record. Really good, late rainy night kind of feel. Ltd
ed of 50 in hand screened covers on clear lathe cut vinyl
12".
|
 |
Golden
Boots - Bland Canyon Adventure 10" Lathe Cut:
- $20
Ltd Ed of 75 copies, paint by numbers
cover with paint set (and potential bonus gift):
One of the earliest Golden Boots releases, this was written,
recorded, manufactured (40 copies) and played live in the
space of 8 hours in April of 2005. And it is REALLY, REALLY
good!. Features Justin Champlin (Nobunny) on drums and a
special appearance by Dr. Dog. Comes in a paint-by-numbers
cover and includes Golden Boots Brand Watercolor Paints.
It is very important to both the band and PIAPTK that these
covers actually get painted. But, knowing the collector
mindset, we knew that the chances of record nerds actually
painting them were slim. So, we decided that we needed to
offer a free gift that would be an essential part of the
package. In order for this thing to be "complete"
you need to have the lathe cut cd-r (with an unreleased
song recorded in my backyard on a 1940s wire recorder called
"Ugly One" that has been lathe cut into the backside).
And you will only receive this once you email a picture
of your paint by numbers job (preferably with yourself holding
it), thereby making the set complete. Golden Boots and PIAPTK
have a history of what Dmitri affectionately calls "dick
moves", which I just think are fun, i.e. oversized
7" jackets that protrude obtrusively in your shelf,
LPs with cassettes stuck to the front, etc. This is just
another in a proud legacy of us making your record collecting
hobby more difficult, and thereby more intrinsically valuable
to you. Coincidentally (or IS it?), the time it takes to
paint the cover is the exact running time of the record.

Karl Blau: Ho! Western Lands/Wing Flap Mantra - TRIANGULAR
8" - FREE
This record is FREE! But, of course, there is a catch. As
a Holiday gift, and in celebration of our 32nd release (in
just over two years?!?!??!), we are offering this up as
a free thank you gift to our "frequent buyers".
It's a little thank you gift to the handful of folks that
buy the majority of our releases. We really do appreciate
you! Anyone who owns 20 or more of our releases gets one
of these beautiful records for FREE! And when I say beautiful,
I MEAN it. The picture does not do this thing justice. On
clear, triangular vinyl, in a hand-cut heavy duty picture
disc sleeve that has been resewn together with a homemade
velum insert in each flap. There are only 25 of these available,
and they CANNOT be purchased... If you are one of the few
that qualifies for this, please put a comment in your purchase
that lets me know how many of our releases you have. I will
probably recognize your names anyway. If you are close,
but don't have enough of our releases yet, don't worry,
we have plenty coming up in the next few months! If these
run out, there is another bonus gift in the works for later!
Songs: Ho! Western
Lands, Wing Flap Mantra.

Golden Boots - EV/Coyote Deathbed
Surprize
LOTS OF OPTIONS ON THIS ONE!
Throw
Mutations-era Beck, The Monkees, and Gram Parsons into a
blender and you would get something roughly equivalent to
Tucson, AZ's The
Golden Boots. This is a double EP 12" that is comprised
of Coyote Deathbed Surprize tour-only EP, and the EV ep,
which was originally intended to be released on the Trust
Series. When I received those tracks, I couldn't, in good
conscience, allow there to be only 25 copies. I feel that
way with a lot of the lathe cuts I release, but this one
was just TOO GOOD! So here it is.
On top of all that this record has a couple of very peculiar
qualities:
SIDE A - PLAYS FROM THE INSIDE OUT!
SIDE B - HAS DOUBLE GROOVES that run parallel, meaning that
if you put the needle down on the lead-in groove, you will
play either the odd or even grooves, and each set of grooves
has a different set of songs.
Songs: Side A: Ancient
Buried City, West Nile Isle (Dictaphone Buffett Version),
Ghost
Machine, Days are Night, Slangin Family Ties Dub. Side
B: Evil One, Everything,
Evil Eye, Everytime.
Deluxe
Expanded Edition!
Because
of the foul-up at the pressing plant during the initial
run, we never got any of the "swirl" vinyl that
I really wanted for this release. So, I ordered an additional
250 on pink and orange "starblast" vinyl. And
they look AMAZING! Unfortunately, I had already cleaned
off the screens for the covers before I knew I would need
more. Dmitri from Golden Boots suggested doing an alternate
cover and including a new cassette as part of the packaging.
And thus, EV/CDS/TF was born! The full 17 song album is
also available for digital download at cdbaby.com,
and iTunes. Cdbaby
is cheaper, though! There are also 25 copies that come in
unique collage sleeves made by the Boots themselves. The
Telelog Freedom cassette is also available for individual
purchase.

etc. Making these things took over my life for weeks. If
you don't believe me, ask my fiance. But, I am very proud

Arrington
deDionysio- UNIQUE Lathe Cut 7"s :
Sold Out
This
is a true rarity. I let Arrington borrow my record lathe while
I was out of town, and he recorded 40 records (onto picnic
plates) straight into the lathe, all completely different.
He also made unique water color paintings on all the covers.
Each record has a cd that has a sampling of some of the recordings.
Your recording may/may not be on the cd. Arrington took most
of them on tour, but I have TEN copies for sale.

Arrington DeDionysio's Malikat Dan Singa
- Rasa Sentuh 7"
A
picnic plate lathe cut of a song from the upcoming Malikat
Dan Singa Record cut specifically to be sold at What The
Heck Fest 2009. The lathe treatment adds a lot of strange
and wonderful distortions and audio artifacts that caused
it to sound "like radio transmissions from outer space"
according to Arrington. There were 30 made with hand-painted
covers and were only for sale at What The Heck Fest.

Casiotone For The Painfully Alone - STSNC Instrumentals 7"
Owen
Ashworth (CFTPA) was recently commissioned to do the music
for an indie film called Stay
The Same Never Change. He wrote all the music, including
the ringtones
for the character's
phones. Owen asked PIAPTK to release a very limited 7"
with some selections of this score. We were very happy to
ablige. However, there are a few other weirdo colors that
will be slipped in here and there. These are almost gone,
so order soon. They are on "random" colored vinyl,
which includes dark grey marble, red marble, green marble,
purple vinyl, etc. Due to the number of colors and the small
number that are left, the is no real way to request a color,
though. If you order more than one, you will receive different
colors if we have them.
Songs: Twinkle Echo (reverse), Nashville Parthenon (Instr),
STSNC, Twinkle Echo (redux), I Like Common, Possible Love
Interest (ringtone), Bad People (ringtone), OMG (ringtone),
Probably Walking Down the Street (ringtone), Ice Cream Truck
(Instr). |

New Science Projects: Secret Tongues SQUARE 8"
Denton, TX Blooze Punk band New
Science Projects caught my eye (and ears) with a strange
collaged package that arrived in my PO Box a year ago. It
had a bizarre note, some stolen vacation photos from the singers
job as a photo developer at Walgreens, and some other random
stuff thrown in. We are finally getting around to working
together on this amazing 6 song 8 inch on clear, square lathe
cut. Only 35 made! Each one comes in a totally unique hand
collaged cover!
Songs: Paco, Iron Bars, Blood (acoustic), When You Go,
Sister Apocolypse, The Vessel.

Early one Sunday morning, Keith John Adams and Casper and
the Cookies recorded a couple songs in my home studio in exchange
for a place to sleep and some veggie pasta.
One
mic, in the middle of the room, no retakes/no overdubs. This
8" is PIAPTK's most labor intensive to
date. These one-sided 8"s were silkscreened on the flipside
and Kay Stanton from CATC HAND KNIT all of the bags! As KJA
says "They also make very fetching hats". Ltd edition

WIll Johnson (Centro-Matic)
on Square Vinyl
PIAPTK Limited Edition Suscription Club Vol. 5 - Centro-Matic
has been my favorite Texas band since I moved to Denton, TX
for college in 1997. The first Centro-Matic album, Redo the
Stacks, which was played completely by Will had just hit the
racks, and on my first day there, the record store clerk across
from campus INSISTED that I buy it. And I am eternally grateful!
This is 2-song single on Square, Clear 8" Lathe-Cut records
in hand-stamped burlap bags.
Songs: Blackest Sparrow/Darkest Night, From
This I Will Awake |

07. Jad Fair with
Daisy Cooper on
Square Vinyl
PIAPTK Limited Edition Suscription Club Vol. 4 - Jad
Fair was touring Europe in the early 2000's with German
Band Daisy Cooper. After the tour, they went into the studio
to record these three covers. This is an extremely weird
record, mostly because it is a Jad Fair record, and isnt
weird at all. It has solid musicianship, singing, production
value, etc... all things that Jad isn't really known for.
Songs: Blue Moon, Sunday
Morning (Velvet Underground), and an Ernest Noyes Brookings
poem set to music.

05. The Poster
Children"Lost Songs 1996" by
on Triangular Vinyl
PIAPTK Limited Edition Suscription Club Vol. 2 - The
Poster Children have LONG been one of my favorite rock bands.
They were always on the cutting edge of punk rock and technology.
They were keeping tour blogs before most people even had
internet access, and were one of the first bands I'd ever
heard of to have Enhanced CDs (content created by bass player,
Rose). It's been pretty quiet on the Poster Children front
for the last couple of years, but as the PC approach their
20th anniversary, Rick was kind enough to dig through the
vault and give me these four incredible studio outtakes
from 1996. Why they were never released (in any form) is
beyond me, but I am ridiculously excited to bring them to
the subscribers. On clear triangular vinyl, in heavy duty
picture disc sleeves with hand cut stickers.
Songs: Remember
Your Name, Everything Must Go, New World Record, Bulletproof

The Viking Moses "Lands of the Pink" LP
PIAPTK Limited Edition Suscription Club Vol. 1 - You
might have seen Brendon Massei (aka The VIking Moses) anywhere
on the planet sometime in the last 6 years. The man hasn't
had a permanant residence in that long, and is constantly
on the road, bringing his folky weirdness to every basement,
VFW Hall, club, bar, and park that will have him. He's played
in Devendra Banharts touring band, and toured/opened for a
laundry list of indie greats. I asked Brendon if he had a
couple of songs that he would contribute to the club and he
said "No, I don't have any loose songs, but I have an
ALBUM you can have!". I was initially reluctant to do
a full 12" for a single artist (as this hadn't been my
original plan), but after hearing the first 20 seconds of
these 6 epic songs (which total 38 minutes) I was ecstatic
to make it the first record of the series. The covers were
hand painted and silkscreened and it includes a two-sided
screenprinted cardboard lyric insert. On clear vinyl, of course.
Songs: Western
Role, Keep Still From Traveling, PArting Halves, Precious
Things, Departure Bid, Winter In New England |
