New Releases, Half Price Sale, etc.

New Releases:
Juston Stens - Out of Here/Falling Clear, Square 7"
The debut single from One-Man Band, Juston Stens. Juston spent the last 6 years playing drums for Philly pysch-poppers, Dr. Dog, until he left to pursue his solo stuff. He plays all instruments, and the single was recorded by Nathan Sabatino of the Golden Boots. Two beautiful, retro pop tracks, The doo-wop style Falling, and the Elvis-ish rocker Out of Here. Each cover was hand-screened and colored in by Juston himself. Ltd Ed of 100.
Little Birds - New All Time Low Single Square 7". 2 song single on clear, square vinyl lathe cut from Dallas alt-folkers Little Birds.
The awesome New All Time Low (so good, you'll swear you've heard it on AM radio) backed with the Tall Dwarves cover "All My Hollowness to You". Comes in beautfully letterpressed and embossed covers made by the band. Ltd ed of 50.
Distro: Wckr Spgt - Future Hits of Wckr Spgt. 2xCD - a 36 song tribute to long-running LA art-punk band, WCKR SPGT. Features Mountain Goats, Lou Barlow, Golden Boots, Jad Fair, Amps for Christ, Miniature and Presidential, etc. For a full track listing, click here. These copies (unlike the Amazon copies) include hand coloring and special messages from the band. I only have 8 copies.

Half Price/Recession Special Sale:
You spoke (by not buying any records for the last 4 months) and I listened. You said, "I don't have money to pay rent, much less buy records". So, in an attempt to clean out the PIAPTK storage room, all non-lathe cut records are half price for a VERY limited time only. That's right, all 7"s are $2.50 each, and all LPs are half their normal price. There are a lot of things coming up that I need to pay for, and you can help me out!

PLEDGE DRIVE and SOB STORY:
You know those annoying NPR and College Radio pledge drives where, twice a year, the DJs spend half your commute extolling the benefits of the station you are listening to and begging for your money? Well, this is the PIAPTK equivalent. It will not happen very often, and your pledge gift will be a much better value than the flimsy "environmentally friendly" shopping bag (made in a Chinese sweatshop by a 4 year old) that you get for your $120/yr pledge. And it isn't even going to me or the label... it's going to your favorite band: Golden Boots!

On June 26th, yours truly will be getting married. And, as you might expect, the wedding is going to be a hootenanny with several PIAPTK bands entertaining the assembled masses. One of those bands, Golden Boots, is traveling all the way up from Tucson. Originally, they were planning on touring up to Olympia, allowing them to (hopefully) pay for gas. However, Dmitri's day job playing with a little band called Dr. Dog has meant that the band could not do the tour. Any lesser band would have said "Hey, sorry, but we can't make it, D's got this thing, and it's just not going to work out..." But NOT the 'Boots. They said "see ya at the bachelor party!" and spent $1600 of their hard-earned (Ryen does construction... in TUCSON. It's REALLY hard earned...) on plane tickets. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford to pay for their plane tickets but I feel awful that they have to drop that kind of coin to come play for free. So, here is your chance to get something really cool and help out some friends in need (we are friends, right?).

Here's the pitch:

Being the vanity label owner/professional schmoozer that I am, I have a lot of friends who are great musicians. I put out the call to my friends to record a love song (cover or original) that I could lathe cut onto picnic plates and give away at my wedding as party favors. I expected two or three bands to get it done on such short notice, but I had FIFTEEN bands contribute, and the majority of them recorded the song within a week of being asked and specifically for us. I was beyong flattered and excited. Each wedding guest will only get ONE random plate, and I will only have 10 of each at the wedding, with the bands getting 10 copies for themselves. These plates will never actually be available for sale, and the only way to get one is to come to my wedding (did you get your invite? Some of them got lost in the mail.) However, if you want to donate $100 (ridiculous, right? I know, but it's such a good cause!) to the "Fly the Golden Boots to P(dx)aradise!" fund, you will get the ENTIRE SET in a silkscreened cover.

Here is what you get, FIFTEEN one-sided records on one-sided HEART SHAPED picnic plate lathe cuts (they sound better than you would expect!). Records were cut by yours truly and the hearts were cut by the woman I love.

1. Golden Boots: The Man In Me (Bob Dylan)
2. Lazer Zeppelin: A Song For You (Gram Parsons)
3. The Blank Tapes: Islands in the Stream (The Bee-Gees)
4. Firs of Prey: This Will Be Our Year (The Zombies)
5. Castanets (feat. Golden Boots) - You Are My Sunshine (Traditional)
6. Edmond Lapine: Words of Love (Buddy Holly)
7. Amo Joy: Do You Take This Man? (Nirvana (the 60's psych band))
8. Graves: Sea of Love (Phil Phillips)
9. Wooden Wand: Love Me Tender (Elvis Presley)
10. Lake: Sudden Whim (LAKE)
11. Carcrashlander: Lovesong (The Cure)
12. Jad Fair: Blue Moon (Rodgers and Hart)
13. Casper and the Cookies: That's Love (Casper and the Cookies)
14. Lee Baggett: Thank You (Led Zeppelin)
15. Miniature and Presidential: I'm Your Man (Leonard Cohen)

Can't afford the records, but still want to give? Well, you can get 320kbps mp3s of all of the above songs for only a $10 donation! Neither the records OR the downloads will be available after June 25th, so act fast, and there are only 10 (or less) of the record sets available.

GOT A MINUTE?

Hope you are enjoying the benefits of the oncoming summer… unless you are in the Southern Hemisphere, in which case, enjoy it while it lasts! Sit back… this is a LONG (but informative and succinct) email…

We've got a LOT of news! 5 new releases from Golden Boots, Lee Baggett, Golden Ghost, Southerly and Salesman, Pay what you want downloads trial, and a bunch of stuff floating around the PIAPTK periphery that is not directly related to PIAPTK, but from our friends such as cheap art (from the PIAPTK collagist, Steven Williams), Wooden Wand, PIAPTK test pressings auctioned for Tennessee Flood Victim, New Facebook page, etc.

FIRST: NEW RELEASES
GOLDEN BOOTS - WHITE SKELETON 5" X-Ray Picture Disc one-sided lathe cut. Great new song on a beautiful record. If you hold it up to the light, it's an X-Ray, if you look at it flat, it looks like the Milky Way. Ltd ed of 50.
LEE BAGGETT- SUMMER GRASS VOL. 1 - SILVER SEA - Lathe cut clear 10" in hand-painted covers. The first in the series, but the last of three to be released, this is the conclusion to the Summer Grass saga from Lee Baggett. This was recorded a few days before and after 9/11 with Graves' frontman Greg Olin working the tape machine and other instruments. Again, Lee made amazing 10"x20" oil paintings for each of these and they include a cd-r with a lathe cut bonus track on the back. Ltd ed of 35.
GOLDEN GHOST - THE UNIMAGINATIVE BODY 2xLP double Laserdisc LP. This amazing album features Viking Moses accompanying Golden Ghost on most tracks. They come in GORGEOUS pen and ink/hand-painted and totally unique covers. There are only 20 in existence, and I only have 5 left.
SOUTHERLY - CHAMPION OF THE NOISY NEGATIVIST Lathe Cut LP- This is not a standard Southerly record... it was actually originally recorded by Krist Krueger (Southerly frontman) as a solo project under a different name, but the full band began playing songs from it and Krist decided to make it a Southerly release. It is a very beautiful, atmospheric, droney kind of instrumental record. Really good, late rainy night kind of feel. Ltd ed of 50 in hand screened covers on clear lathe cut vinyl 12".
SALESMAN - SKULL Laserdisc LP - In die cut covers designed to look like those little cardboard coin protectors that coin collectors use. These look fantastic and were made by the band. Salesman is an Austin band featuring John Farmer from Barsuk's What Made Milwaukee Famous. I've been trying to figure out how to describe them, but their sound is hard to nail down. There are tinges of mid-90's Texas Alternative Noise rock bands (Toadies/Baboon/Caulk) along with shades of Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, etc. But check it out for yourself at: http://www.myspace.com/salesmanband/
TO PURCHASE ANY OF THESE, PLEASE GO TO THE SHOP PAGE!

SECOND: BENEFIT TEST PRESSING STUFF
As you are probably aware, Nashville was just the flooded. The only record pressing plant that I have used that has ever treated me right, United Record Pressing, is based in Nashville. I LOVE these guys. They are the only plant that I would recommend to anyone looking to put out a record. They are professional, cheap, do a great job and won't jerk you around, unlike most places I've used. Short story, shorter, one of their employees, Vernon, his wife and his three kids lost EVERYTHING in the flood. Take a second to think about this happening to you… not only your house, but your record collection, your daughters toys, your car, your clothes, EVERYTHING. In order to help out a guys who has been involved in making so many of the records I love, I've donated some test pressings for them to auction off. You have the chance to own test pressings for Wooden Wand's Born Bad, Casper and the Cookies' Optimists Club, Casiotone For the Painfully Alone's STSNC Instrumentals 7", and the Wooden Wand/Golden Boots split 7". In addition to that, they will be adding all kinds of great stuff in the coming days, so check over there often and bid high. Please head over to http://shop.ebay.com/towervinyl/m.html and check it out.

THIRD - BENEFIT(ish) ART SALE
Many of you have seen Steven Williams' collage artwork on the PIAPTK website or on the half dozen postcards that get inserted amongst the old photos, trading cards, and other garage sale ephemera that I stuff in most of the packages I send. Well, Steven is a man of enormous talents, but modest means and spent the money he had earmarked to buy a plane ticket to my wedding on an emergency vet bill for his kitty. So, in order to drum up some money, he is selling original art packs. These could include paintings, collages, drawings, photos, etc. They start at $20 and top out at $40 depending on which package you buy. You also get demos of some of Steven's band, Ark Ruffians (who are awesome and will be releasing a record on PIAPTK soon), and could even get your own song written exclusively for you, if you buy the $40 banger. And, you get a ltd ed 1/1 lathe cut cdr with your track on the back, cut by yours truly. You will seriously not be disappointed and you will be helping both me and Steven. Get it here: https://sites.google.com/site/aeropleusticsltd/gallery

FOURTH - RELATED RELEASES
James Jackson Toth's Wooden Wand is back with a new limited album called "Wither Thou Goest, Cretin", that is a sort of followup to Born Bad. At some point, we will hopefully get a chance to release it on vinyl, but for the moment being, James is releasing it himself as a limited edition cd-r. The covers are amazingly handmade out of blocks of hardwood floors. They are super rad, and there are only 200 of them. Most are going out to distros and stuff, but you can buy them directly from James by emailing madmonkvinyl-at-hotmail-dot-com. Also keep a lookout for his new album "Servant to Blues" coming out this fall on Michael Gira's Young God Records.

Also, Shrimper Records (a PIAPTK inspiration) is releasing a "tribute" to L.A. band Wckr Spgt. There are 36 amazing bands recording new Wckr Spgt songs including Mountain Goats, Peter Peter Hughes, Simon Joyner, Jad Fair, Golden Boots, Miniature and Presidential, Franklin Bruno, Lou Barlow, Amps for Christ, etc. And it's only $9.99 for TWO CDs! I've heard this thing, and it is epic... You can get more info here: http://www.wckrspgt.com/tribute/ and buy it here: http://www.midheaven.com/item/smooth-sounds-the-future-hits-of-wckr-spgt-by-va-2xcd

FIFTH - PAY WHAT YOU WANT DIGITAL DOWNLOADS
So, this was the hottest, newest thing about a year ago, and being a late adopter like I am, I always considered it, but never really got around to it. But, now, I'm ready to give it a try. Can you really trust the people to benevolent? I want to believe so. So, I am going to try it out and see if it works. I will be putting up assorted releases for two weeks at a time with each email I send out.
I figured for the first email, I would take it back to the beginning and put up the recordings that put PIAPTK on the map, the first Ltd Ed Subscription Club with recordings from Wooden Wand/Clay Ruby, Jad Fair, Will Johnson, Poster Children, Viking Moses, and Tender Forever/Angelo Spencer. You can pay whatever you want (I think it has to be at least $.01) and it will take you to the file. I am going to put them up as one big download , 25 songs… (remember, these tracks on iTunes would be $15.99, as it would be two cds worth of stuff!) so, please be mildly generous.
TO DOWNLOAD IT, PLEASE GO TO THE SHOP PAGE!

SIXTH - UPCOMING RELEASES
We will probably have a new batch of records for you sooner than later, including lathe cuts from Juston Stens (ex-drummer of Dr. Dog) and Little Birds. For those that are wondering, the CFTPA tour release didn't happen, but Owen and I are still planning something in the future, we just don't know what yet.

SEVENTH - FACEBOOK
We are now on Facebook! (what did I tell ya? Late Adopters…), so go "become a fan"! We will eventually do something cool with it, maybe…Until then, you will just get a heads up on tours, videos, free downloads, what I had for lunch and how many $100 record lathe needles I ruined that day, etc. http://www.facebook.com/pages/People-In-A-Position-To-Know-Vinyl-Recordings/115874758423653

EIGHTH - UPCOMING RELEASES
We will probably have a new batch of records for you sooner than later, including lathe cuts from Juston Stens (ex-drummer of Dr. Dog) and Little Birds. For those that are wondering, the CFTPA tour release didn't happen, but Owen and I are still planning something in the future, we just don't know what yet.

03.10.10
Back from the dead (or at least a heavy snooze)!
Dudes! It's Spring!
I think this is one of the longest eras of radio silence since I started this hellride/joyplane of a record label. But rest assured, while it is not going to appear to be particularly prolific, many breakthroughs have been made, and many plans have been laid! As stated in a previous email, the plan was to let the label slowly gear down into oblivian through planned obsolesence. Impending nuptials, and other real life realities have viciously thrust themselves into the childlike dreamworld that has allowed me to dump barrelfull after barrelfull of cash into this noble pursuit. I swore that 50 records was the finish line. Unfortunately, I realized as I crossed the mark that there were still many good miles (music) that needed to be run (released), so I sought out a way to make this race more affordable and sustainable to run. In walked the Presto 6n. The record lathe of my dreams. Now it is all mine. This same model was used by Sun, Motown, Capitol, etc to cut their lacquer masters in the 50s. After a long, steep, and EXPENSIVE (needles cost $100 a piece, and I ruined 5 in the first 2 weeks!) learning curve... I've got this thing licked! Expect a lot of new (very limited) releases in the near future.

And now, a few new releases!

Golden Boots - Bland Canyon Adventure 10" - Lathe cut ed of 75. -PREORDER
One of the earliest Golden Boots releases, this was written, recorded, manufactured (40 copies) and played live in the space of 8 hours in April of 2005. And it is REALLY, REALLY good!. Features Justin Champlin (Nobunny) on drums and a special appearance by Dr. Dog. Comes in a paint-by-numbers cover and includes Golden Boots Brand Watercolor Paints. It is very important to both the band and PIAPTK that these covers actually get painted. But, knowing the collector mindset, we knew that the chances of record nerds actually painting them were slim. So, we decided that we needed to offer a free gift that would be an essential part of the package. In order for this thing to be "complete" you need to have the lathe cut cd-r (with an unreleased song recorded in my backyard on a 1940s wire recorder called "Ugly One" that has been lathe cut into the backside). And you will only receive this once you email a picture of your paint by numbers job (preferably with yourself holding it), thereby making the set complete. Golden Boots and PIAPTK have a history of what Dmitri affectionately calls "dick moves", which I just think are fun, i.e. oversized 7" jackets that protrude obtrusively in your shelf, LPs with cassettes stuck to the front, etc. This is just another in a proud legacy of us making your record collecting hobby more difficult, and thereby more intrinsically valuable to you. Coincidentally (or IS it?), the time it takes to paint the cover is the exact running time of the record. CD shipping is free!

Lazer Zeppelin - American Derivative LP
The debut recording from Olympia supergroup (mems of L.A.K.E., Full Red, Number Bear, Twig Palace, etc) will blow your mind. Imagine the Carter Family arranged by John Cale, produced by Phil Spector and Kevin Shields, and mastered by Daniel Johnston on his Sears and Roebuck tape recorder. 8 epic tracks of echo soaked lo-fi beauty. You can check out a below, low, low, budget video for the song Sinking Sand here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbZ_7PVx3gU. There will be a video for the second single, Moses, up on youtube soon. You can also check out some other tracks at their myspace. I fully believe that this band will be bigger than Nickelback within the year.

American Derivative is limited to 300 copies in 2 versions:
Colored Version - Ltd ed of 200 copies in white, fingerpainted and silkscreened covers on colored vinyl.
Half and Half Version - Ltd ed of 100 copies in black, fingerpainted and silkscreened covers on half black, half yellow vinyl . Includes a unique, 1/1 print of a photo taken by Andrew of LZ.
Both versions include digital download card.

Lazer Zeppelin - Highway Hynosis - Lathe cut LASERDISC!
Yes, that's right, Lazer Zeppelin where they belong on Lazer disc. Side one holds the epic, 10 minute jam, Highway Hypnosis, which features guest appearances by Arrington DiDionysio and Angelo Spencer. The other side is decorated by LZ in neon paint markers. Ltd Ed of 40 copies, 20 of which are currently on tour with LZ.
If they come near you, I HIGHLY recommend you check them out! Their dates are below:

New Releases!
Dudes! It's Fall!

Wand - Haunting the Stagecoach Lathe cut book!- (PREORDER ONLY)
(Wooden) Wand's long awaited "Haunting the Stagecoach" Lathe cut
8" record and book, with pages hand-screened onto X-rays. There are only 100 copies in existence and they took over 120 man hours to make. Between hand-cutting the front and back covers, pages, 9 silkscreen pulls per book, the binding, etc. Making these things took over my life for weeks. If you don't believe me, ask my fiance. But, I am very proud of the outcome! These will not last long.
You can see a short video of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6_gnKzqvE4
Jescos - 7"s - (PREORDER ONLY)
The debut recording from the new Tennessee "Super Group" featuring James Jackson Toth (Wooden Wand), Tim Bracy (Mendoza Line), and Bingham Barnes (Glossary) amongst several other local players. Two great songs on colored vinyl, in hand-screened covers. Limited to 500 copies: 100 in Jade Green, 100 in Hot Pink, and 300 in some combination between Grey and Purple.
Arrington deDionysio- UNIQUE Lathe Cut 7"s
This is a true rarity. I let Arrington borrow my record lathe while I was out of town, and he recorded 40 records (onto picnic plates) straight into the lathe, all completely different. He also made unique water color paintings on all the covers. Each record has a cd that has a sampling of some of the recordings. Your recording may/may not be on the cd. Arrington took most of them on tour, but I have TEN copies for sale.

Lee "Gull" Baggett : Summer Grass Vol. 2 + Lathe Cut Cd-r
The second in a series of three 10"s from Olympia freak-folk-jammer Lee Baggett. You may know Lee from his tours and recording with Little Wings or as one of the core members of Be Gulls. Comes with a unique 10"x20" oil painting by Lee himself and a lathe cut cd-r with a bonus track (playable on your turntable) on the "b-side" of the cd.
Miniature and Presidential - Adrienne/Celery Colory Streetlight 5"
Two new tracks from Miniature and Presidential, including a cover of his favorite World-Of-Warcraft-consumed-retired-musical-freak, Anthony Jr. Limited Edition of 20.

Mona Reels: Volume One 12"
A 6-song EP comprised of three, 2-song cd-rs that the band self-released over the last 2 years (2 of which were previously released on the PIAPTK Trust series). Beautifully saccharine and harmony driven disco folk! Limited to 200 copies in hand-screened covers.

Wand/Golden Boots Split 7" PREORDER
NEW PREORDERS! - Every preorder I do ends up getting jinxed and taking forever, but if you don't mind the wait, we've got a couple new preorders for you. Both Preorders will include the 320 kbps mp3s emailed to you on June 21st-ish, long before the records arrive. Please be aware that if you preorder both records, neither will be shipped until both arrive. If you would like them shipped separately, please purchase them in two different transactions.

Wand/Golden Boots Split 7" - A great new split 7" from two of my favorite bands! Tennessee's James Jackson "Wooden "Wand"" Toth and Arizona's Golden Boots. Preorder it up on the SHOP page!

Casper and the Cookies - Modern Silence Double Gatefold LP - The new album from Athens, Georgia's Casper and the Cookies! They come in a beautiful, gatefold cover. There are only 500 copies made, and only 200 copies are on AUDIOPHILE RED vinyl, in honor of Jason's obsession with the Japanese Red vinyl version of Sgt. Peppers and their reputation of being the best sounding version of that album. PIAPTK.com will be the only place that you can get the red version of this awesome record! The first 50 preorders will receive a special clear 5" lathe cut with two exclusive songs on it, as well as the mp3s early.

Summer Sabbatical
In what seems to be a tradition around the PIAPTK parts, the shipping and receiving warehouse (my basement) will be closing down for a while this summer. You can still order during this time (and help fund my travelling), just understand that you won't receive anything until the leaves start to turn and the breeze gets cooler. If you absolutely MUST have it sooner, visit one of your fine local independant stores and ask them to order it from Revolver Distribution, our exclusive distro.

I will be traveling in Washington DC, NYC, Spain, Morocco, Italy, France, Germany and the Czech Republic from July 21st - August 28th. If you happen to live in Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Paris, Berlin or Prague and want to hang out with an American dude with a vinyl-fetish (not whips and catsuits, just records) record label, a couch to crash on will be rewarded by eternal gratitude and free records!

5.3.09
Rossi/Whitman 10"s delayed

New Release Preorders
Since the announcement of the upcoming release of the new Wooden Wand "Born Bad" vinyl only LP, my email has been blowing up with requests for pre-orders. And, although problems at the plant during the last one were a real pain, we are going to try it again. All multi-item preorders will ship with like-dated releases. So, if you order more than one item and they have different shipment dates, we will either hold them until the later date, or you can pay the extra shipping to have them sent early.

Wooden Wand: Born Bad AVAILABLE NOW.
After probably one of the worst years of James Jackson Toth's life, he writes probably his best album to date, and has asked PIAPTK to corelease it with his Mad Monk imprint. 12 songs of haunting beauty and sadness. We will only have 250 copies each. Between distros and preorders, these will be gone REALLY quickly. Preorders will receive their LPs immediately after we get them here at PIAPTK HQ, and probably several weeks before they are announced for actual sale. Preorders also will receive advance notice (before the email list)eabout the sale of a SUPER limited edition WAND 4-song lathe cut 7" that will be available in the late spring. There will only be 100 made, and given the response from the Born Bad LP and the Wooden Wand/Clay Ruby splits, I have a feeling these will go almost instantly. Preorder it up on the SHOP page!

Buy some gifts! (from us!)
A lot of new releases now, and several coming down the pipe in early February-ish. If you could help us buy gifts for our friends and family by buying gifts from us for YOUR friends and family, you would make us (and your friends/family) extremely happy!

New Science Projects: Secret Tongues SQUARE 8"
Denton, TX Blooze Punk band New Science Projects caught my eye (and ears) with a strange collaged package that arrived in my PO Box a year ago. It had a bizarre note, some stolen vacation photos from the singers job as a photo developer at Walgreens, and some other random stuff thrown in. We are finally getting around to working together on this amazing 6 song 8 inch on clear, square lathe cut. Only 35 made! Pick it up on the SHOP page!

Flaspar: Deep Punk SQUARE 8"
After the original pressing of this sold out, I still had another 35 of the letterpressed boxes, so we decided to make another 35 of them. These four live-in-the-studio tracks were recorded with No Love For Ned. Each one also includes a collaged insert done by Cody from Flaspar. Pick it up on the SHOP page!
The Crash That Took Me: Unreleased Songs from the Orchestrated Kaleidoscope Sessions 7".
3 unreleased songs from Dallas "all-star" band The Crash That Took Me, comprised of members of Black Tie Dynasty, [DARYL], MacCavity, The Earlies, etc. Mastered at some studio in England called Abbey Road. Pick it up on the SHOP page!
Karl Blau: Ho! Western Lands/Wing Flap Mantra - TRIANGULAR 8" - FREE
This record is FREE! But, of course, there is a catch. As a Holiday gift, and in celebration of our 32nd release (in just over two years?!?!??!), we are offering this up as a free thank you gift to our "frequent buyers". It's a little thank you gift to the handful of folks that buy the majority of our releases. We really do appreciate you! Anyone who owns 18 or more of our releases so far, (and buys our two new releases) gets one of these beautiful records for FREE! And when I say beautiful, I MEAN it. On clear, triangular vinyl, in a hand-cut heavy duty picture disc sleeve that has been resewn together with a homemade velum insert in each flap. There are only 25 of these available, and they CANNOT be purchased... For details, visit the SHOP page!

Back Home
Well, school is back in session, and I am back home. All of the orders placed over the summer should have long-since arrived. While I was gone, I had a lot of irons in the fire. We also finally got more XL and XXL T-shirts in.

FOUR new releases, well, 3 and 1/2 new releases and a few new distro items. Here they are:

4-Way Split Northwest: Karl Blau / Gift Machine / Graves / Nate Ashley
PIAPTK is starting a new series. 4 geographically centralized artists that are good friends on one LP. The inaugural issue is this split between Karl Blau, Gift Machine, Graves, and Nate Ashley. Comes in a hand-screened jacket (from an amazing pen and ink drawing by Nate Ashley) and on colored vinyl. 50 copies on swampy green marble, 75 copies on purple, and 375 copies on grey marble. Digital Downloads are available at cdbaby.com or iTunes. Cdbaby will save you a couple bucks. Pick it up on the SHOP page!
Carcrashlander 7"
Carcrashlander is the solo project of Cory Grey. Cory has been in or played trumpet/piano for/with so many bands it is ridiculous: A few are: Norfolk and Western, Desert City Soundtrack, Graves, Nate Ashley, Southerly, The Dodos, etc... This 7" has four songs and comes in a hand-screened cover and on colored vinyl. Only 400 made. Pick it up on the SHOP page!
Golden Boots - Deluxe , expanded release of EV/CDS + Telelog Freedom Cassette
Because of the foul-up at the pressing plant during the initial run, we never got any of the "swirl" vinyl that I really wanted for this release. So, I ordered an additional 250 on pink and orange vinyl. And they look GREAT! Unfortunately, I had already cleaned off the screens for the covers before I knew I would need more. Dmitri from Golden Boots suggested doing an alternate cover and including a new cassette as part of the packaging. And thus, EV/CDS/TF was born! The full 17 song album is also available for digital download at cdbaby.com, and iTunes. Cdbaby is cheaper, though! There are also 25 copies that come in unique collage sleeves made by the Boots themselves. The Telelog Freedom cassette is also available for individual purchase. Limited to 250 LPs w/ tape, and 150 tapes. Pick it up on the SHOP page!
Distro item: Casiotone For The Painfully Alone - The Town Topic EP 7"
This was released by UK label OIB Records. However, with shipping and currency conversion, etc, it would cost someone in the US $12-13 to order it, and likewise for European purchasers of the CFTPA-STSNC 7" that we released. So, we made a trade with OIB for 25 copies of the Town Topic EP. They are a little more expensive ($6.50) because they are "imports" (international shipping is NOT cheap), but they are still cheaper than olrdering direct. Pick it up on the SHOP page!
Distro item: Wise Old Little Boy - Little Wings/Microphones (Mount Eerie) Documentary
This is a great documentary made by my good friend Ryer Banta on a 2004 tour of the NW with Little Wings and The Microphones. We have a few copies in the distro, and it is DEFINITELY worth a watch! Pick it up on the SHOP page!

Summer Hours
Some of you may know, this little mom and pop (well, ok, just a pop) operation is funded with Washington State homeowners taxes that are distributed to me through my "day job" as a professional secondary educator. And, as most of you probably know, such a profession is not without it's perks. Other than a rewarding job that I love, I also receive two months of vacation during the summer. And, I am most certainly planning on taking advantage of it (I earned it, believe me!). The downside of that is, that I won't be here to pack up all of your orders. I will be touching base every couple of weeks or so to fulfill orders, though. The upside of it is, that I will be out on the road, and I will hopefully get to meet one or two of you. If you happen to be near one of the following cities, and feel like having a drink, shoot me an email and I'll buy you one.

to pick them up in late June. So, if you have an extra... I'll swap
you my soul.

July 18-20 - Anacortes, WA - What the Heck Fest. Probably my all time
favorite festival (outside of SXSW. Little Wings, Sandman, Karl Blau,
Graves, Calvin Johnson, Gift Machine, Mt. Eerie, D+, etc, etc. A super
fun time of camoping, lake swimming, weirdo folk listening, etc.

And, for the third summer in a row, I'll be hitting the road with my
buddy, Krist Krueger of Southerly and Sean Brooks of Minmae. If you
can help us out with any of the TBD dates, please let us know!

Good News, and Bad News
Good news first. The Golden Boots and CFTPA/STSNC records finally arrived and everything has been shipped out as of today. Bad news is that 1) it took too damn long... no thanks to the pressing plant, AND we didn't receive the Green/Orange/White swirls, and instead got Mint Green (I guess the green, white, and orange swirled a little too much). The Mint Green ones look killer, but they aren't what I was expecting. Also, they didn't send me any of the transition vinyl I was expecting, but hey... you live and learn. Every record I've made has taught me something, and this record was no exception.

5.06.08
TWO NEW RECORDS!
Golden Boots - EV/Coyote Deathbed Surprize.

We are super excited to announce the release of a vinyl-only LP from Tucson AZ's Golden Boots. They classify themselves as Crumbly Western Americana. Musically, they are, in my opinion, a combination of Mutations-Era Beck, the Monkees and Gram Parsons. The LP is comprised of two seperate EPs. Side A is from a now out of print, tour-only cd-r called Coyote Surprize Deathbed. Side B is a brand new EP called EV. It was originally recorded to be released as part of the Trust Series, but was so damn good, I couldn't in good conscience restrict it to only 25 copies. There are 235 copies on Orange/Green/White swirl, 235 copies on Translucent Blue/Black, and about 30 copies on transition vinyl that are a combination of the two combinations. Also, there are a few peculiarities/eccentricities, etc. with this record. The CDS side plays from the middle of the record out. The EV side has double grooves, meaning that there are two sets of grooves running parallel. So the even grooves play one set of songs, and the odd grooves play the other set of songs. If you preorder now (records will ship in a couple weeks), you will be emailed a link to download the full album in 192kbps .mp3s. This offer only lasts until the records start to ship, so hurry! Preorder it on the SHOP page.
Casiotone For The Painfully Alone - STSNC Instrumentals 7"
Owen Ashworth (CFTPA) was recently commissioned to do the music for an indie film called Stay The Same Never Change. He wrote all the music, including the ringtones for the character's phones. Owen asked PIAPTK to release a very limited 7" with some selections of this score. We were very happy to ablige. These should be available just in time for CFTPA's West coast tour that starts on May 21st. However, they are available for preorder right now! He will also have some copies available at the merch table. There were only 300 of these made, all on mixed (random) colored vinyl. These will probably sell out extremely quickly, so order soon. Preorder it on the SHOP page.

3.27.08
Website revamped, etc.
We just got back from SXSW, where we had an amazing little day party with the likes of Golden Boots, Karl Blau, Poison Control Center, Spring Tigers, Ryan Anderson, and Zeigen Bock. The rest of the festival was equally amazing. I've just revamped the website, even though it looks pretty much the same, it has been streamlined a bit. And, hopefully, I've finally got the Paypal buttons all working at the same time!

2.06.08
CFTPA/Concern Splits arrive and Preorders ship
We just received the shipment of CFTPA/Concern splits, and boy, are they beautiful! Thick, square slabs of 8.375" brown and tan marble vinyl. The cover photo features Owen "the Grim Sweeper" Ashworth and Gordon "Batboy" Ashworth circa the early 90's, I would imagine.
You can still order them on the discography page.

12.15.07
Casiotone For the Painfully Alone/Concern Collaboration Square, Brown or Tan Marble 8 & 3/8" vinyl.
We are now accepting pre-orders for the Limited Edition, CFTPA/Concern split, which is a one-sided square 8 & 3/8" on Tan or Brown marble vinyl. The records should ship shortly after New Years Eve. It contains 2 Bruce Springsteen covers; Born in the USA and Streets of Philadelphia. CFTPA and Concern (Gordon Ashworth, Owen's (CFTPA) brother) will be doing a Northwest tour in early January to celebrate the release. Preorder them on the discography page.
The Limited Edition Subscription Club
is sadly in a state of indefinite hibernation. Due to quite a few factors beyond our control, we are having to retire the main Limited Edition Subscription Club for the time being. We had a lot of great bands lined up, and hopefully, we will be able to release them soon as independent releases (the first being the CFTPA/Concern split). We do, however, plan to continue the Trust Series.
Subsidiary Launched: The IVL
In an attempt to prevent diluting the PIAPTK indie pop/folk pool with the weirdness that is my musical taste, we've launched a separate label to release experimental bands, recordings from my personal past, and cassettes and cd-rs.
First IVL Release:
ICBINVH - Fuck Art, Let's Dance 5 Song EP - Lathe Cut 7"
This album was recorded in a janitors closet in West Texas in 2003. 4 indie rockers and a metalhead, tired of the fact that the teenagers at the shows they were throwing only wanted to hear hardcore (and lacking the desire to play hardcore) decided to create the most cliched, tongue in cheek, synthy garage band imaginable to see if the hardcore kids responded. They set their crotches on fire, got in on-stage brawls, and drank a lot during 20 minute guitar solos. Download the whole thing here before you buy it. Limited to 20 copies.
Get it at the IVL page.

11.30.07
Trust Series Released
So, while I'm STILL waiting for some recordings for the second series of the LARGER series, which I guarantee is going to be amazing, We've got a new super-limited lathe cut series. Here is the deal:
You get: 7x8" EPs from bands I really love. They all have between 4 and 10 songs.
They come in silkscreened jackets, whose designs were hand drawn by the artists. They will be shipped in three shipments every 2 or 3 months (the turnaround time from New Zealand is about this). The Trust part of the series is basically that noone knows which bands are part of the series, until they receive them. But, if you like the stuff we've released so far, you'll like this stuff. No huge names, just good tunes. Get them on the discography page.
Ten more Casper and the Cookies/Keith John Adams Split 8"s available.

Due to a total SNAFU situation on the first pressing of these, we ended up about 15 short of the original 50 that were going to be made. And Peter King, being the totally stand up and amazing Kiwi that he is, has made good on it and sent me some replacements. I only have an extra 10 available, the rest went to the bands. Get them on the discography page. SOLD OUT...AGAIN.
SEVEN Anthony Junior albums available on www.AnthonyJunior.com.
If you haven't checked this guy out, you really should. He's weird, lo-fi, quirky, and catchy as hell. There are a lot of free downloads on the page. We've combed through the 500+ songs he's written in the past 4 or 5 years and compiled 7 seven albums. Anthony and I spent many an evening hand-stamping the covers, watching
mockumentaries and romantic comedies, and drinking lemonade. They are available at AnthonyJunior.com for $6 ea ppd or a special package deal for the whole catalog. He's also got some pastel drawings up there for cheap.

11.03.07
Flaspar - Deep Punk Square 8"
Las Vegas via Portland Electro band Flaspar coming at you with four live-in-the-studio tracks recorded with No Love For Ned. There were only 35 made, with each one in a hand-letterpressed, snake-skin pattern giftbox with a hand-made collage insert on clear, square lathe cut.
Go to the discography page to purchase
AnthonyJunior.com launched
weirdo folky Anthony Junior has finally got himself a website. You can buy his art for cheap, and will soon be able to buy a LOT more of his music. With over 500 songs recorded over the past 4 years, we dug through the vaults to compile the best stuff into 6 (soon to be 7) cohesive albums on cd-r. These will be available in the next few weeks. You can sample some of the tracks on the site. Until then, there are still a few copies of the expanded Magical Evening cd-r with hand-drawn art available on the discography page. When they are gone, they will be gone forever and replaced by the new version. We are also in the process of recording a full band album, which will be available on both pressed cd and vinyl in Spring 08. It will feature reworkings of old classics and new hits.

9.13.07
Casper and the Cookies/Keith John Adams Split 8" picture disc

Early one Sunday morning, Keith John Adams and Casper and the Cookies recorded a couple songs in my home studio in exchange for a place to sleep and some veggie pasta. One mic, in the middle of the room, no retakes/no overdubs. This 8" is PIAPTK's most labor intensive to date. These one-sided 8"s were silkscreened on the flipside and Kay Stanton from CATC HAND KNIT all of the bags! As KJA says "They also make very fetching hats". We made 50, but between silkscreening screwups and a rat chewing up a cord in the New Zealand pressing plant, there were only 40 that were usuable. Go to the discography page for info. UPDATE: These are sold out!
Anthony Junior cd-rs

Straight out of the Sharps Mental Hospital in San Diego, Anthony just moved back up to Olympia. He is now one of the weirdest, catchiest, most prolific artists in a town full of weird, catchy and prolific artists. As a fundraiser for the LP that we have coming up later in the winter. 40 songs, in hand drawn and unique covers with a polaroid of the man himself. Go to the discography page to purchase!

7.23.07
Paypal Shopping Carts, T-Shirts, and Interns
This is fairly boring news, but news nonetheless. We've finally got the whole Paypal shopping cart thing figured out (US orders only), so now you can avoid doing the math in your head. We also have new, sweatshop/sexual harrassment free t-shirts in two different colors for only $8 ea. We are also looking for college interns (long distance ok) to do graphic design/online marketing etc. If your college has an intern course for credit and you would like to work with us, please email us at PeopleInAPositionToKnowInfo--at--yahoo--dot--com and we can sort out the details.

7.11.07
Norfolk and Western and Graves Present: Fleetwood's Hack 10" $9.
Two bands on loan from Hush Records collaborate and produce a 6 song tribute to the 50's/60's Olympia Doo-Wop band, The Fleetwoods. You may or may not know the name, but you will definitely recognize the tunes when you hear them (Mr. Blue, Graduation, Come Softly to Me, Go Away Little Girl, Tragedy, To Know Her (Is To Love Her)). Norfolk and Western, despite being an amazing band also nightlite as the backing band for M.Ward. Graves are definitely one of my favorite PacNW bands! Comes in hand-letter-pressed covers. Only 490 made!
Casper and the Cookies - The Optimist's Club LP - $10
The long-awaited vinyl LP release for the latest Casper and the Cookies (ex-Of Montreal) album, "The Optimist's Club". These are on amazing, psychedelic swirl vinyl! Contains a bonus track, not available anywhere else! Comes in hand painted and silkscreened covers (I had carpal-tunnel for weeks after finishing these things!). These are available for preorder and will be shipped out as soon as CATC get me the lyric inserts.

5.30.07
Southerly - Storyteller and the Gossip Columnist LP
PIAPTK is ecstatic to release this on beautiful Blue/Grey Marble vinyl (CD version on Greyday Records). This album is getting a lot of press and college radio play, so please check Southerly's Myspace to hear some tracks or to find out which stations are playing it. These are only $11
Southerly - Best Dressed and Expressionless 2x10"
This is an extremely limited edition reissue of Southerly's debut album, Best Dressed and Expressionless on a pair of clear lathe-cut records. Covers are on hand torn paper with woodblock print artwork. There are only 50 of these made! These are only $20
Final Sub Club Records Shipped
The final shipment of the first series of the Limited Edition Subscription Club shipped out a day ahead of the USPS's enormous postage hike. It may have only gone up $.02 for a stamp, but cds and records have gotten MUCH more expensive. Anyway, enough complaining. This load featured an exclusive Will Johnson (Centro-Matic) single on square lathecut and in hand stamped burlap bags. It also included a heart-shaped 8 song "single" from two of my favorite French artists, who both happen to live in Olympia: K Records Electro-pop star Tender Forever, and some dirty blues from Kimya Dawson's baby-daddy, Angelo Spencer. Head over to the
DISCOGRAPHY page for more details on these amazing records.

4.01.07
Southerly/Protest Hill 7" released!

The first only-somewhat-limited-edition release by PIAPTK (I.e. more than 100 copies) is finally available! A split 7" from Portland indie-folkers Southerly and Protest Hill (one-man-band, Ryan Heise from System and Station) See the DISCOGRAPHY page for more information.

3.03.07
Second Subscription Club Records have shipped!!
So, the next two installments in the PIAPTK Limited Edition Vinyl Subscription Series have just been mailed out. #3 is a 2-song split with Wooden Wand and Clay Ruby. Both are doing songs from the Velvet Underground and Nico... Run Run Run and Black Angels Death Song respectively. These come incased in hand-screened (and (at least partially) hand-cut/folded/glued/trimmed) jackets. #4 is from Jad Fair (Half Japanese). It is an extremely weird Jad Fair record, largely because it is from Jad Fair and it is NOT weird. It contains a cover of Blue Moon, Sunday Morning (also Velvet Underground), and a poem set to music. It has production value, actual singing, and studio musicianship... characteristics somewhat uncommon in Jad's music. See the DISCOGRAPHY page for more information.

Other new releases that have come in and are ready for purchase are:

Southerly - Storyteller and the Gossip Columnist. - The cd version of this won't drop until at least May, when it is released by Portland, OR's Grey Day Records. Ten tracks of pure beauty on clear, hand-lathe cut vinyl. There were only 50 copies made... Southerly has 25 to sell at shows, and PIAPTK has 25 to sell through this site. This will sell out very fast, so don't dilly-dally. Each of these covers is completely hand-painted by Portland artist Heidi Elise Wirz (the woman that did the artwork for the proper release). $20

2.14.07
2nd shipment of PIAPTK LESC:
So, I've gotten a few emails from subscribers asking where the next shipment of records is. They are coming soon! Getting the records from New Zealand has been a longer process than I had anticipated. Peter (the man that makes the records) is an incredible guy, but he has to do each one by hand in real time, and he is used to orders of 20-30 records at a time. Add to that the fact that he has plenty of other customers, and it is taking some time. We have most of the artwork ready, and are just waiting on the 4th record to arrive.
South By Southwest March 14-18th, Austin, TX:
Well, it's almost time for the biggest music party of the year. I tried really hard to arrange a day party for PIAPTK at SXSW this year, and given the caliber of bands that we have coming up, I figured I could pull it off... Unfortunately there weren't many of our bands that were playing this year, and all of the places I could find were booked up long ago. So, I'll just be down trying to promote, schmooze, drink, and generally have a good time watching as many of the 2000+ bands that descend upon Austin as possible. So, if you see me around handing out postcards or stickers, say hello! If you know of any bands I shouldn't miss, I'd appreciate the heads up! Or if you just want to sit down for a free Red Stripe (you must know the location of the free Red Stripe) somewhere, let me know!

Other new releases that have come in and are ready for purchase are:

There are several more releases winging their way across the ocean right now on their way from New Zealand, and the artwork and everything should be complete by Februaryish. Update
Well, the sub club has been completely sold out for a while, but I have been pretty lax about updating the site. Most of the records for the first issue are here, but the USPS seems to have "misplaced" half of the pressing for the very first record of the series. So, we are just waiting for them to come and a little bit of artwork to be completed and screened, and then the records will be out asap. We also have some amazing non-series related records coming out soon... so keep an eye out!

Please Excuse the Off-Key Caterwauling - a 4-song, Sqaure 8" from the now defunct Texas Power-Cow-Pop one-man band is now available! Once described by an Austin show-goer as "Camper Van Beethoven, Daniel Johnston, and Neil Young riding around a circus stage in the little tiny clown-car" whatever that means. You can download "The Picture You Wish You'd Never Given Me" Here. We have already sold out of this release. Sorry.

Do you have subscriptions left?

I've been getting a lot of emails about whether or not we have subscriptions left. We DO have 80 subscriptions left. HOWEVER, they will not be released until early November. The only way to get one is to sign up on the email list below. The first 80 people to follow the link in the email will be able to get a subscription. You will not get spammed, I only send out emails on rare occasions, and noone but me can post to the group.

On Track!

The first two records of the subscription are being manufactured as I type, and all of the recordings for the first series (plus some) are sitting on my desk, ready to be unleashed upon the world. EIGHT amazing artists, but you they will remain a mystery until they are shipped. As someone said "It's a GLORIUS gamble! Sometime during the week of October 23-29th, we will release the subscriptions. The only way to know when is to sign up on our email list:
